Phoenix
Rising Yoga Therapy by Phillys
Solomon
Phyllis
Solomon turned to yoga for her own healing more than
13 years ago to heal a lower back injury which six
months of physical therapy failed to mend. A few years
later she experienced a life-altering bout with cancer
and through her yoga practice, began to realize the
connection between how she dealt with stress in her
life and the tensions she held in her body. This spurred
a successful self-healing journey and a desire to
help others. Cancer-free for more than 10 years, she
shares this knowledge to help people better manage
stress and related illness in their lives.
The
session begins with a centering, where you let go
of your day and focus on yourself and your body. Next,
Phyllis guides you through a body scan, where you
check in and become more aware of all of your body
parts, taking note of anything that comes up. You
may do some very simple supported warm-up exercises
before Phyllis guides you into yoga poses, which are
chosen based on your dialogue and your focus for the
session. In a safe and nurturing environment, she
holds and supports you in the yoga stretch, allowing
the body to fully relax and the mind to let go of
typical thinking patterns. At this point, you may
become aware of recent, past or unconscious feelings
or incidents. Phyllis maintains a dialoguing process
throughout the session to guide you to your own discoveries
and conclusions. As the session ends, Phyllis guides
you through an integration, where you can begin making
connections between the results of the session, your
life and your responses to life.
Shiatsu
& Chinese Cupping by Alyne
Tsuyuki
The
Japanese word shiatsu means finger pressure: shi —
"finger," atsu — "pressure". In shiatsu, the fingers,
thumbs, elbows, knees, and feet are all used to stimulate
or sedate the energy flowing through the body to promote
health and healing. According to Asian medicine, our
energy, or ki, moves along specific pathways (meridians)
around the body. These meridians relate to our internal
physical organs and our emotional, psychological,
and spiritual state. The connecting point of the organs
and functions in the body is the meridian system.
Chinese
cupping - the Chinese therapy for reducing knots,
helps better blood circulation, as well as relaxation.
Thai
Massage by Lek
Sometimes
refered to as yoga for two, this ancient therapeutic
bodywork combines acupressure, yoga, compression,
and deep stretching utilizing the therapists palms,
thumbs, elbows, soles of feet, and knees to release
muscles and free joints. Pressure and slow rhythmic
movements are applied to specific energy lines known
as sen to unblock restricted areas allowing energy
to flow freely through the body. The result is an
expansive, calm, centered sensation, and a mind/body/spirit
balance.
CranioSacral
Therapy by Beacon
OrShalom
Beacon
OrShalom graduated from the Finger Lakes School of
Massage in 1997 with 850 hours of training and education.
That same year, she was introduced to CranioSacral
Therapy and took her first course with the Upledger
Institute. Her profound respect for the work has led
to eight years of continuous study and treatment.
She is an Upledger Certified Presenter, Teaching Assistant
and participates in the Upledger Clinic Externship
Program regularly. She has lectured at Columbia University
College of Physicians and Surgeons. Currently, she
is promoting awareness of CranioSacral Therapy through
lectures, instruction of introductory courses and
her private practice.
CST
was pioneered and developed by osteopathic physician
John E. Upledger following extensive scientific studies
from 1975 to 1983 at Michigan State University, where
he served as a clinical researcher and Professor of
Biomechanics. CST is a gentle, hands-on method of
evaluating and enhancing the functioning of a physiological
body system called the craniosacral system - comprised
of the membranes and cerebrospinal fluid that surround
and protect the brain and spinal cord. Using a soft
touch generally no greater than 5 grams, or about
the weight of a nickel, practitioners release restrictions
in the craniosacral system to improve the functioning
of the central nervous system. By complementing the
body's natural healing processes, CST is increasingly
used as a preventive health measure for its ability
to bolster resistance to disease, and is effective
for a wide range of medical problems associated with
pain and dysfunction.
Hwalgong
by Brandon Manzanares
Hwalgong,
meaing the Art of Revitalization, is a system of massage
theory and technique from the Korean tradition of
healing arts. Hwalgong seeks to find optimum condition
of body physiologically and psychologically by facilitating
the flow of life energy and the seven charkas through
the energy channels of the body called the 'Meridians'
by using highly specific and refined system of massage
motions and technique. It has its basis in traditional
Eastern Medicine and it is performed to stretch, breathe
and relax the client to achieve optimal effect and
uses the same principles of energy and meridians as
acupuncture or acupressure.
